Changunarayan Temple is located on a high hilltop that is also known as Changu or Dolagiri. The temple is situated in a small village known as Changu so this temple gets its name by this village and it also believed that the Kashmiri king gave his daughter, Champak, in marriage to the prince of Bhaktapur so Changu Narayan Temple is named after her. The Manahara River flows beside the hill. This shrine is dedicated to lord Visnu and held in special reverence by the Hindu people. This temple is considered to be the oldest temple in the history of Nepal. In this temple, examples of stone, wood and metal crafts can be seen. The temple is a symbol of the religion and faith of Kathmandu valley and plays an important religious role. The major attraction in this temple is the Vishnu image with ten heads and arms.
