Langtang Region Trek

Langtang Region Trek

Langtang is one of the nearest trekking destinations from Kathmandu and is a place of natural beauty and cultural riches. It is Nepal’s first national park, and lies between the Himalayan range to the north, dominated by Langtang Lirung (7,245 m), the highest peak in the area, and smaller peaks to the south – Chimse Danda (ridge), Ganja La pass (5,122 m), Jugal Himal and Dorje Lakpa (6,989 m).

The trek here used to be more adventurous as the area was  visited by fewer tourists. Apart from the spectacular scenery, a visit to the area used to be an opportunity to explore the lifestyle and culture of the Tamangs, whose craftsmanship, language, dress and houses bear their uniqueness. Langtang is also known for its many glaciers – of which there are more than 70 of varying sizes – and high altitude lakes that include Gosainkunda, Parvatikunda, Bhairavkunda and Dudhkunda. The forests in the region have temperate and sub-alpine vegetation. Wildlife includes migratory birds, deer, monkeys, tahr and pika.

But, now it’s all gone. Everything that used to be there has been shadowed by the destruction brought by the recent earthquake. The headline in the Nepali Times said it all: “Langtang is gone” but it’s not, still there is lo of things remained to be viewed in the region. The small village, which was located along a popular trekking route near the base of Mount Langtang, was completely buried by an avalanche. The ice and rocks were shaken loose by the earthquake that struck central Nepal on April 25, 2015. At least 200 people perished in the disaster and still lot of people are lost and not within the people’s contact. The earthquake has brought up a huge demolish in the trekkers and tourists life who love adventure and travel tours. Almost all of the houses and guest houses that used to be there are completely destroyed or are in the condition of being unsafe. The trekking route also has been destroyed. So, for this and the upcoming season we and rest of the Nepali trekking groups won’t be able to conduct any sort of trekking programs in that region. We are very sorry for all those who lost their lives, family and shelter and are in hope that this won’t occur again and pray for that.

However, slowly things has begun to be normal and everything are going under control so, we are hoping that once again after sometime Lantang trek would be possible and every trek lovers could be in the beautiful Lantang valley and be the part of adventures trek. Government and several other trekking agencies are trying their best to make the treeking possible in Lantang region. Still the Mt. Lantang, Gosainkunda lake and the natural beauty of the Lantang valley is out there. Lots of things are still to be experienced and this isn’t the end for sure. Rather this is the beginning of new experience and new era of living up the adventure. We hope soon everything will be sorted out and once again we all can relive the adventure through the Lantang region.
